The Yasuki Herald is a sort of online fanzine. It will have information on recent events or news from the Clan War community as well as information that CW players may find useful. There is even a section on rumors for unconfirmed events or products that may become available in the future. These are only rumors, however, and may never come to pass. |
This section is for any items of special interest, new items, or important information that you might be interested in.
News Clan War Support widespread at GenCon!
[]
AEG went all-out to support Clan War at GenCon this year. The display rack of CW blisters had a prominent position in the booth, and there were demo games going on all weekend.
There were also huge trophies for first and second place, but there were also trophies for the semi finalists on each day, as well as a trophy for the winner of the "Defend Your Honor" bracket as well. AEG also had some medalions for painting prizes. John Zinser himself (the big boss over at AEG) presented the prizes for the painting awards on Friday. John is pictured here with the trophy collection at the start of the tournament.
I talked to several people about the future of Clan War and it looks pretty good. Several discussions are still ongoing, so final information will be forthcoming. However, I will say that several key people at AEG expressed a strong desire to see Clan War thrive. I was very happy to see the interest in promoting Clan War, and there should be some good news in the near future. There are several plans in the works, including one to get ClanWar.com more space so we can add more pictures and other material.
Shadowlands wins Storyline Tournament at GenCon!
[]
Apparently it was a big year for the Shadownlands at GenCon! The storyline tournament was very intersting. The two finalists were a Shadowlands army played by Matt Lewitsky, and a Corrupt Scorpion army played by James Wilkinson (one of last years finalists). Interestingly enough, both players were from the same local play group, as was one of the finalists in the Dragon/Phoenix challenge.
The final battle scene was a valley that was the site of an abandoned Jade Mine (a beautiful piece of work, if I do say so). There were 3 entrances to the mine, and they were worth more VP to each player the farther away it was from their deployment area.
Things did not go the Scorpions way, and even though he fought well and hard for the prize, his troops would not cooperate and many broke before the Shadowlands horde or were cut down. Once the Scorpion army was routed, the Shadowlands Horde discovered the Armor of the Shadow Warrior was stored in the mine! The ancestral armor of the Hida family in the hands of their sworn enemy? Sure it had a hole in the chest, but that was no reason to throw it into a mine shaft! The final fate of the armor is not yet known (but news should be arriving shortly).
The photography department at the Yasuki Herald got a number of shots of the battle, and a full report on ClanWar.com should be forthcoming.

Third and Fourth Place TrophiesClan War Goes Gold!
[18-Jul-01] Geoff Schaller, the man to see for Clan War tournaments, has revealed that the Clan War storyline will be matched to the Gold storyline in the Collectible Card Game (CCG). This means that CW storyline tournaments can now affect the story of Rokugan as a whole. He got his information from Rich Wolf, the lead story guy at AEG. You can read Goeff's email here.
Unaligned Army wins Tournament at Origins!
[10-July-01] Who says the Ronin are worthless? They put in a good showing at Origins 2001, beating a Naga army for the win. Kudos to Dylan Gould, who lead his rag-tag forces to victory. The tournament was a great success, with 8 people showing up on Thursday and 16 on Friday. There were some very cool prizes awarded by AEG too, more on that as the information is available.
Ken Carpenter Leaves AEG.
[10-July-01] Ken Carpenter, the designer of Clan War, has announced he is leaving AEG, and you can read his letter here
[10-July-01] What does this mean for CW? Actually, it is not a big change. Ken has permission from AEG to remain the point-man for answering CW rules questions, and AEG has expressed their intent to keep up support for Clan War. It does mean that Ken now has more time to answer questions, and has become an active participant on the Clanwar-l mailing list (for info on joining, go here)..AEG continues to run CW tournaments, and now that AEG owns the L5R Intellectual Property, CW will be contributing directly to the story of the world of Rokugan!
Scenario Contest on Clanwar.com enters voting phase.
[09-July-01] Now that all the entries are in, they will be formatted and posted on ClanWar.com (keep an eye on the Contest section). After that, all members of the Clanwar-l list will be allowed to vote for their favorite. The winner in each of the two categories (Historical and Encounter) will win $50.00 in AEG merchandise. If you are not a member of the Clanwar-l list, now might be a good time to join so that you can vote for your favorite.
[17-July-00] The start of voting will be delayed a bit. ClanWar.com received so many entries that it will take some time to prepare them all for posting on the web site. As such, the deadline for voting will also be extended. We will have more on that as it develops.
New Version of Army Builder Now Available!
[01-July-01] A new version of Army Builder is now available from Lonewolf Development. This new version has some cool new features and some bug fixes. However, the major improvements are to the data description engine, allowing even more sophisticated data files to be constructed. You will see those new data files begin appearing now that AB is released. A new version of the DE data files including all the profiles from Call to Arms is on the way.

European players Unite!
Chris Payne has begun to organize a link/group for European players of Legend of the Five Rings players of all sorts, to try and increase the support of players across "the pond". Email him if you are interested. Good Gaming to all of you!
This section is for rumors of things I have heard, or for material that is subject to change without notice. Some of this stuff may never come to pass, or may be early or later than stated here. If I wrote it here, then it is fairly reliable information, but plans change and it certainly isn't guaranteed if it is just a rumor!
Rumors More Celebrities may be visiting Rokugan Soon!
[18-Jul-01] Rumor indicate that a long lost Phoenix may be visiting Rokugan soon, and apparently he has not heard about the recent Dragon/Phoenix troubles, as he seems to have some Dragons in his entourage.
Celebrities Spotted at Local Convention!
[17-July-01] Bayushi Kachiko and Mirumoto Hitomi were spotted at a recent convention.
Imperial Assembly [01-July-01] The Imperial Assembly has returned to AEG, along with the rest of the L5R Intellectual Property. At this point, the new IA has not been finalized, but we will let you know as soon as the new version is announced.
